What did the Russian and Japanese wear during war?
The early months of the Russo-Japanese War the Japanese were known to wear uniform as is shown above the text. Cavalry and artillery were subsequently issued with the new khaki uniform but some second line units continued to wear dark blue until the end of the War in September 1905. During the winter of 1904-05 the heavier blue uniforms were again worn but often under the loose fitting summer khaki drill for camouflage.
The dark green winter-uniform (trousers, shirts,caps) usually worn under greatcoat. During the summertime the Russians wore dark green trousers and caps with white shirts. They wore white shirts usually dyed khaki when they would wear them in the field. They had white cloth covers for the caps, that wear also dyed khaki.
